What is a genealogy lead?
Genealogy leads are simply the names and contact information of people who have been (or still are) involved with a home based business in the past. This means they have joined a networking / direct sales / business opportunity, put up the cash and actually started their own home business instead of just talking or dreaming about it.

Why are “genealogy” cheaper than “opportunity seeker” leads?
Genealogy leads aren’t usually wrapped up in all the hype that usually come with opportunity seeker leads. Many lead and list brokers try to convince potential list buyers of the incredible value of their lists. One way they do it is by offering them at a much higher price. They claim the list is fresh, targeted, qualified etc. However, the one thing they simply can’t get around is the fact that “opportunity seekers” haven’t really proven themselves like “genealogy” leads have.
Are there any issues with the Do-Not-Call Registry?
There are many positions on this issue. Many network marketers believe that because you are approaching a genealogy list as someone inside the networking industry, you shouldn’t scrub the list prior to calling it. What is the difference between genealogy leads and opportunity seeker leads?
First you need to understand that genealogy leads are NOT opportunity seeker leads. Opportunity seeker names are the names and contact information of people who “request” more information about starting a home based business. They usually come with full contact information including a date / time stamp and IP address of where they “opted-in” to receive information.
Why would I want to use genealogy leads over business opportunity seeker leads?
Genealogy leads have already proven they will take action. They have spent money to sign up. They have already demonstrated they are not tire kickers. Opportunity leads can come in many forms. Many unscrupulous lead and list brokers would have you believe they have the perfect list of business opportunity seekers. However, a list of people who may have asked for information about a home based business, is not the same thing as a genealogy list of people who have proven their ability to take action. Generally “opportunity seeker” leads are broke. They lack the drive or real desire to have success. They are simply looking for a freebie. They are often a pain to deal with. While they claim to want to start a home based business, often they are totally clueless as to what it actually takes to become successful. They aren’t willing to invest the time, energy or effort. This isn’t to say they’re aren’t any good “opportunity seeker” leads. However, it;s often like trying to find the elusive needle in the haystack. Your time, energy and effort is far better spent with genealogy leads.
